Sound Director

Bringing your project to life through sound

A sound director is responsible for overseeing the sound aspects of a project, such as a film, TV show, or theater production with the ability to enhance the overall production through their expertise in sound design and engineering. They collaboratively work with the director, composer, and other members of the creative team to ensure that the sound is in the overall production. A sound director may also be responsible for designing and engineering sound effects, selecting and editing music, and supervising sound technicians and other sound-related personnel. They must have a deep understanding of sound design and engineering, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities
  • Overseeing the sound aspects of a production.

  • Designing and engineering sound effects.

  • Selecting and editing music.

  • Supervising sound technicians and other sound-related personnel.

  • Collaboratively working with the director and other members of the creative team to ensure that sound enhances the overall production.

  • Recording and mixing sound, as well as ensuring that the final product meets technical standards.

Qualifications
  • 4 or more years of experience in:

    • Production of professional quality sounds and all related technologies with audio functionalities.

    • Game engine audio implementation technologies as a part of computer and video game development.

    • Taking a video game or other type of media (movies and TV shows for example) as a linear equivalent from conception and development through the means of publication and shipment.

  • A bachelor's degree in sound, music production, or a related field.

  • A keen ear for detail.

  • A deep understanding of sound design and engineering.

  • Experience in recording, mixing, and editing sound.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

  • Experience in the specific genre or style of production is often necessary.

  • The ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

  • Skillful knowledge and excellence of the following titles of digital audio editor and recording application software:

    • Adobe™ Audition

    • Audacity

    • Bfxr

    • GoldWave

    • REAPER

    • Sound Forge
